Mountain Roots Garden Center is a family-owned garden center and nursery located in Milliken, Colorado.
We grow many of our plants right here in our local greenhouses, ensuring they’re acclimated to Northern Colorado’s unique climate before they ever reach your garden. From annuals and perennials to trees, shrubs, hanging baskets, and houseplants, we’re passionate about helping our customers create beautiful outdoor and indoor spaces.
Meet the Family Behind Mountain Roots
Mountain Roots is more than a business—it’s the continuation of a family passion that spans generations.
Chris grew up in the green industry, learning the craft of growing quality plants from his parents, Gary and Sue. For more than 30 years, Gary and Sue built a reputation for producing exceptional plants and helping customers succeed in their gardens. From a young age, Chris spent countless hours in greenhouses, learning firsthand what it takes to grow healthy, beautiful plants.
Today, Chris and his wife Ashley are proud to carry that legacy forward through Mountain Roots Garden Center. Together, they’re building a place where gardeners of all experience levels can find quality plants, trusted advice, and a welcoming community.
While Chris brings decades of horticultural experience, Ashley’s passion is helping people feel comfortable and confident in their gardening journey. Whether you’re planting your first flower bed, growing vegetables, or creating your dream landscape, our goal is simple: help you grow something you’ll be proud of.

Meet Our Greeters
No visit to Mountain Roots is complete without meeting Kibou and Eli.
As the unofficial greeters of the garden center, they’re known for welcoming customers, supervising shopping trips, and occasionally accepting belly rubs as payment. They’ve become customer favorites and are always happy to say hello.

Join Our Team-2027
As Mountain Roots continues to grow, we’re looking ahead to the 2027 season and hope to add an Assistant Manager to our team.
We’re looking for someone who loves working with people, enjoys being outdoors, and isn’t afraid of a fast-paced day during the busy spring season.
Ideal candidates will have:
- Retail, greenhouse, nursery, or garden center experience (preferred but not required)
- Strong customer service skills and a friendly, positive attitude
- Leadership experience or the desire to grow into a leadership role
- The ability to be on their feet and lift plants, soil, and merchandise throughout the day
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Dependability and a willingness to jump in wherever needed
- A passion for plants, gardening, or helping others succeed
Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who shares our commitment to quality plants, exceptional customer service, and building community through gardening.
